Technical Assistance

Kellogg Food and Community Initiative caption here.

As a recognized leader in civic engagement for youth, we are able to share our expertise with organizations seeking to effectively engage youth as partners. We are currently collaborating on two foundation funded initiatives aimed at supporting youth, adults and whole communities as they develop locally driven strategies.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Food and Community Initiative (FAF)

Through this Initiative, nine communities throughout the country are working to improve local food and fitness environments. The California Center for Civic Participation has a lead role on the Technical Assistance Providers (TAP) Team which offers support to each community’s youth engagement efforts. This support takes many forms, and is responsive to the diverse needs of the participating sites.  We have:

  • Designed and facilitated workshops
  • Created tool-kits
  • Organized youth convenings
  • Worked to build connections and collaborations, all in response to needs identified by the communities.

From Boston to Iowa to Seattle, we provide the help on topics like strengthening youth-adult partnerships, recruitment and retention of youth, and preparing youth for policy engagement.  CCCP works to support the inclusion of youth in these groups as they pursue the goals of this initiative: equitable access to affordable, healthy food, and safe, inviting places for physical activity. Healthy Eating, Active Communities & Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (HEAC)

The California Center is proud to support 10 communities throughout California, who are participating in the California Endowment’s Healthy Eating, Active Communities (HEAC) and the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP).  Our role is assist in the integration of youth into a four-year initiative to prevent obesity in children.  We work with adults, training them to build strong youth-adult partnerships, and provide tools to help communities fully engage youth in their work.  Participating sites have made tangible changes in their nutrition and physical environments, including the [ask Stacy].  The young people who are involved also get the opportunity to participate in the Statewide Youth Board on Obesity Prevention (SYBOP), CCCP’s leadership program, giving them a window into the bigger picture. They see how change can move from the individual, to the local, to the level of statewide policy making. Learn more on the HEAC and CCROPP websites!
